Every December we participate in a campaign led by Community Foundation. Maybe you have heard or provided support to an organization through Colorado Gives which is the name of the event. I had heard about it many times and last year we decided to join this very successful campaign to assist non-profit organizations. In 2012 we received great support which we were very grateful to have received. We are on the list for a second year and hope to do well with your generosity and support. You can go to Community Foundation and view the Colorado Gives webpage and find hundreds of organizations on the list of non-profits. The one thing I like about their webpage is that you can get a well rounded picture of information of any organization you might wish to support during this event in December. If you would like to know more about ALIE Foundation you can go to our home page and click on the Colorado Gives or go to www. coloradogives.org/aliefoundation.
We all need to take action when somebody's child is missing. Sometimes when children are missing they might show up but who in their right mind is just going to wait and not go looking for them right away. Did you know that a bloodhound is capable of finding whoever they are curious about without any training at all. In police work they have to locate specific individuals and for that it takes special and continuous training. They can track down a criminal on the run and they can follow the faded scent of a missing child. When you become an ALIE supporter you become a sponsor of bloodhounds donated to police work. I drove bloodhound Boudreaux to Rapid City, South Dakota, met the trainer who took him to Minnesota for training and then was send to North Dakota to become a trooper to work cases throughout the state. Another bloodhound pup went with us just for the experience and then went to the state of New Jersey.
If you have a horse you would like to donate we can use it for a law enforcement horse unit. Tell us about your horse, we might be able to train it for police work. We are looking for a registered purebred horse that's current in all required vaccines. Your horse must be in great health to be recruited into our horse program to assist any law enforcement unit requesting a horse from us. If you have this type of horse please give a call at 720-207-7824.
We want to encourage you to support this program. We would like to see it continue since it has provided good support to help us with our mission. It is a good program for people that have a vehicle they no longer need. You can support a good cause and receive a good tax deduction at the end of the year. The vehicle can be running or not, towing is free and the information can be submitted online or just call our toll free number today to donate.
We are available for speaking engagements and special appearances at public events. Our focus is on stranger awareness safety issues for families, parents, and children. Children go missing in our country every day and many are never recovered. We can only guess what might have happened to them. We are trying to do what we can to make it possible to find them as soon as possible. There are no guarantees but what responsible person would just wait and to see if they will just turn up. We have a dog program to donate bloodhounds to law enforcement to be trained to find missing children. We are working with a horse program to possibly assist law enforcement posses with good quality horses for their horse units. Horses in law enforcement have assisted in searches for children and adults in general. Our programs can be supported, sponsored, and dog and horse supplies and food can be donated. Keep us in mind when you need a public speaker or when you have a public event.
We are half way into the New Year. For some of us time has moved fast for the rest of us time has really been dragging. I am one of those persons that time just escapes me and all of a sudden I find myself around the corner from the end of another year. I stay very business at the Foundation just trying to figure out what step I should take next. Just between this fact, family, dogs, and horses I got short with time at the end of the day. I know how precious time is when you don't seem to have enough of it. This being said, Ask how you can help! Your help is like gold to non-profit work. Sometimes we can figure out how we can help and sometimes we just have to ask. Stay updated and let us know how you would like to help.
The Foundation has been accepted to participate in the Combined Federal Campaign for 2013. This campaign is organized by federal employee every year between October and December. Federal employees donate to non-profits of their choice through payroll deductions. Thousands of dollars are raised every year and non-profits have to apply to be accepted to participate in the campaign. We have been participating for 12 years and we have met hundreds of people and seen many changes that have kept the campaign very active each year. If you are a federal employee please don't give up on non-profits. Life is not easy for anyone and non-profits should non become extinct. Too many of our friends, families, and children get a smile on their face when they see a non-profit come to visit them.
The bloodhound program continues to be active after 20 years. We received request from 6 states that will be pending until a final decision is made to accept a hound from us. When a decision is made we take action to find an appropriate dog and fly it to its destination to be trained and become certified as an official police dog. Most bloodhounds are active working dogs for at least 8 years and can live to be 10 years old but few work up to 8 years or live past 10 years. During the time that they are working police dogs they might save a life or two which makes it all worth it. Supporters making a donation to our bloodhound program become the sponsors of bloodhounds placed within that given year. There are many ways to make your contribution to the Foundation.
We use Network Solutions as our website builder and their program to create websites has changed. This has set us back since we had to remove all our information from our previous website. We are not working to get our information and our website up and running again with all the information necessary to communicate with our supporters and the people we serve with your help. You will start to see updated information, pictures, events, and get a better idea of where we have been, where we are, and where we are going. We are thankful for your friendship, your concern, and your help. We also want to keep you posted on the different ways that you can support the Foundation.
Time does fly, I say that because this coming month, June of 2013 will be the middle of the year. Are you ready for the Holidays once again? It has not been an easy road but it has been the right mission to pursue to do right by our supporters and those that we serve. Twenty years is a very long time. Hundreds of bloodhounds have come and gone, many officers we have met have retired, and small children that we talk with in the public schools are now in their mid twenties or thirties. And it has all been well worth it because we have done the right thing for those we care for and love. Join our team and walk a walk worthwhile walking. Enjoy every moment of your life, it's does slip by in a flash.
